Quick—name your favorite color. More than any other hue, blue ranks first as the worldwide favorite. It's the color of nature—think sky and sea.

Blue promotes feelings of tranquility, strength, and a sense of inner calm. It communicates strength, dependability, loyalty, confidence, and trust. As a result, many corporate logos use blue to persuade potential customers about the value of their brand, including Dell, AT&T, GM, Ford, United Airlines, British Airways, Pfizer, and Volkswagen. Finally, blue tends to slow metabolism and suppress the appetite. (Try eating from a blue plate or inserting a blue light in your refrigerator to help you lose weight.)

1. "Blue Ain't Your Color" by Keith Urban

The guy in this 2016 country song sees a lonesome lady at a bar. She's staring at her drink, obviously dejected about a man who isn't treating her right.

The sly devil decides to make his move. He tells her that she looks as if she hasn't had fun in a long time and that while blue looks good on a neon sign, it sure ain't her color. (Good one!) Then the helpful fella offers to light up her world. There are only two responses to something as bold as that daring offer—slap him or go home with him.

2. "Blue Velvet" by Lana Del Rey

Did Lana Del Ray ruin a sweet classic song or simply reinvent it? You be the judge.

Bobby Vinton made this R&B song an international chart-topper in 1963 by gushing about the soft blue velvet of his girlfriend's attire. It was bluer than her eyes, and even though their love didn't last, his warm memory of her did.

Then Lana Del Rey turned that fond memory on its head with this 2012 cover version. Her interpretation is a reminiscence of heartbreak and mourning for a long lost lover. The drag in her voice makes her sound clinically depressed, even years post-breakup.

3. "Blue Eyes Crying in the Rain" by Willie Nelson

This 1975 version is my favorite version of the iconic country music song, as Willie Nelson's voice embodies the sorrowful remembrance of a man mourning his lover. All his life, he has been haunted by the memory of her tears as they said goodbye in the rain. Sadly, it was a final parting, and he's never gotten over losing her.

Now my hair has turned to silver
All my life I've loved in vain
I can see her star in heaven
Blue eyes crying in the rain.

Only 8% of the world's population has blue eyes, and DNA research indicates that every single one of them originates from the same ancestor. Blue eyes are the result of a genetic mutation, making blued-eyed people more light sensitive.

4. "Blue Suede Shoes" by Elvis Presley

This is a guy who absolutely loves his shoes, tacky as they might look to you and me. The narrator in this 1956 rock classic warns you not to step on his blue suede shoes but says you can do just about anything else, including:

knock him down
slander his name
step in his face
burn down his house
drink his liquor and
steal his car.

5. "Blue Skies" by Jamiroquai

Mistakes are part of the journey in life, according to this jazz-funk song 2010. He's going through some troubles right now, and the previous progress that he made in his life has slowed. However, he isn't ready to give up, and he won't listen to the naysayers. He believes in himself and trusts that blue skies are ahead!

6. "Blue Bayou" by Linda Ronstadt

This 1977 soft rock song was both an international hit and a signature song for Linda Ronstadt. In it, the narrator describes her longing for a partner and a place she left behind, called Blue Bayou. She is working hard to return home to reunite with friends and a lifestyle that is relaxed and familiar.

7. "Courtesy Of The Red, White And Blue" by Toby Keith

Full of bravado, this 2001 country tune was one of the many patriotic songs that poured forth in the aftermath of 9/11. It took Toby Keith only 20 minutes to write this angry response to the red, white, and blue being attacked on our own soil. The song promises retribution for acts of terrorism. Indeed, the blue on the American flag represents vigilance, perseverance, and justice. How appropriate!

8. "Blue Eyes" by Elton John

The man in this 1982 love song really takes a shine to his sweetheart's blue eyes, comparing them to "a deep blue sea on a blue blue day." He regrets having to leave her side for the day, thus making her cry. However, he knows that when they reunite later, her eyes will be smiling. (And so, I bet, will his!)

Regardless of what kind of eyes you're attracted to—blue eyes, brown eyes, sad eyes, Bette Davis eyes, hungry eyes or something else—why not make a fun playlist of songs about eyes?

9. "Our Blue Dot" by Barenaked Ladies

Fresh water, food and air. Who could argue with the laudatory save-the-Earth objective of this catchy pop song from 2014? The tune reminds us that with 7 billion people on the planet and growing, if we don't act now to take care of our planetary home, then there is no Planet B. Big problems require big solutions! Are you in?

10. "Blue Eyes Blue" by Eric Clapton

Somebody's feeling awfully sorry for themselves, as there's a whole lotta blame cast about in this 1999 pop tune. It was featured in the soundtrack for the movie, "Runaway Bride," and describes the searing pain of being rejected by a sweetheart.

The brokenhearted narrator regrets placing his trust in his former partner and claims they were just living a lie. Then he dives in with the accusations:

It was you who put the clouds around me
It was you who made the tears fall down
It was you who broke my heart in pieces
It was, it was you who made my blue eyes blue.

When you have a magic, magnetic attraction with someone, your eyes might as well be blind to anyone else. That's the description of the chemistry between the lovebirds in this 2012 rock song. The woman tells her lover that her blue eyes are so focused on him that "it's like you're freezing time." Isn't falling in love wonderful?

12. "Blue Moon" by The Marcels

In this doo-wop song from 1961, a man wishes upon the blue moon for someone to love and care for, and his prayers are answered. No longer alone, he has a dream in his heart, and it leaves him stuttering in a happy way: "Bom ba ba bom ba bom ba bom bom ... dang a dang dang ding a dong ding."

13. "Baby Blue Eyes" by A Rocket to the Moon

Whatever it is with blue eyes really makes people want to sing about them! The man in this rock song from 2009 is utterly in love with his perfectly imperfect blue-eyed girlfriend:

She's a doll, a catch, a winner
I'm in love and no beginner
Could ever grasp or understand just what she means.

The way she moves and talks both mesmerize him, and finds comfort in having her close by. He sees himself as her supporter, partner, and protector. Without her, he'd be lost. Would he feel the same about her if she had brown eyes?

Men don't always fall in love with princesses. Sometimes they love really cool working-class women, like the one in this 2013 pop song. Blue Collar Jane always dresses down and drives a 4-wheel-drive, but that's part of her low-key charm. The guy who has the hots for Jane is a neighbor, and he sees her as perfect.

16. "Once in a Blue Moon" by Earl Thomas Conley

The couple in this 1986 love ballad has a troubled marriage. The husband acknowledges being a stubborn man who doesn't often admit he's wrong. He's gone from home a lot, and his wife is starving for affection. He doesn't understand what keeps her hanging on in their marriage, but he's glad that once in a blue moon he does something right.

17. "Blue Christmas" by Elvis Presley and Martina McBride

You'd be blue, too, if you were separated from the one you loved during the holidays. Instead of bucking up and thinking about the happy times, however, this couple wallows in the misery of being apart.

This 2013 Christmas duet owes its existence to the miracle of technology. Although country songbird Martina McBride was just a toddler at the time of Elvis' 1968 "Comeback Special" (the source of the edited video) she was electronically inserted into the footage to create a stunning duet. The effect is seamless and her addition beautifully enhances the tune's emotionality.

18. "When the Stars Go Blue" by The Corrs (ft. Bono)

What do you do when the one you love marries someone else? This folk rock ballad from 2002 makes it clear that narrator is in love with a woman who has just married another man. Because he truly knows her, he suspects that she has simply "settled." He asks whether she is happy in her new life and promises to be there for her without judgment when the stars go blue—that is, when she is sad, lonely, or wishes for another path in life.

19. "Bluer Than Blue" by Michael Johnson

The narrator in this 1978 love ballad is a man who is about to be left by his partner, and he's trying to put a brave face on by pretending that he'll be just fine without her. He's doing a poor job though because he's already depressed as hell.

Without her, he says he can catch up on reading and sleeping. He'll have more room in his closet, won't have to account for his whereabouts, and he will have complete control over the television. Those are the weak benefits of her impending absence from his life. Then he pours his heart out:

And I'm bluer than blue, sadder than sad
You're the only light this empty room has ever had

20. "Blue Skies" by Uncle Kracker

Nothing says "roadtrip" like this 2012 country song. This guy has some beer in a cooler, and his convertible is humming. The radio is turned up, and his girlfriend is by his side. As he pushes the pedal to the floor and the miles roll on by, there's nothing between him and a good time except the big blue sky. Ah, freedom!

Scientific American explains that "the ocean looks blue because red, orange and yellow (long wavelength light) are absorbed more strongly by water than is blue (short wavelength light)." It's all physics!

Question: Who sang 1960's country song "Hey, Blue"?

Answer: Although a search did not reveal a 100% match for your description, I was able to find two options that may be it. The first is a 1958 country song by Bill Mack called "Blue" which LeAnn Rimes notably covered in 1996. She won a Grammy for it. The word "hey," does not appear in the song, however. The second option is an R&B from 1996 song called "Hey Blue" by The Tony Rich Project.

My favourite colour? It depends, of course. I don't have such a colour. There is a reason I could not miss "blue" anything and its interpretations. Once, I was "diagnosed" as Authentic Blue, you know those psychological tests - there are always four major personality types. This one was expressed in colours and their percentages - Blue, Green, Gold and Orange. My dominant colour was Blue, but the cop-out way "the experts" used was - we are all "plaid". I don't like plaid. I don't like simplification. But, I was affected by these colour theory and considered myself Blue. I even wrote one hub about being blue (please don't read, it's not worth even my time) and then half a year later, I wrote about transformation to Orange. Though it should have been a transformation to Yellow - the colour of insanity.

The problem with all that colour confusion is that my relentless grip on the meanings and what's behind and beneath and whatnot makes me Green (analytical mind). So, sure enough, I got to the bottom of it - once I saw that course, the whole thing is straightened out. No one can tell me the meaning of colours without me contradicting and sending the interpreter to fact-check.

So, with the hair - no, I won't dye it blue. While I have some left, I dye it red. However, I know that purple wig suits me quite well. And why not wear a coloured wig? Would more people go for blue? I doubt it. Clothes are easier, what you don't like - don't wear, buy a different colour next time. I think - I'm either Spring or Summer on the clothes "line", not sure. I can't wear black close to my face - (ha-ha-ha! check my avatar).

For home decor, I prefer fall colours. If I had to pick a colour for the car - never white, grey or silver. Nothing, what I call, off-colours.

It's probably about harmony than anything else. What I consider a good choice of colour for home design is the one that doesn't go out of favour too quickly. I have my walls painted "june bud" for 15 years and I have no intention of changing the colour. My mom's choice of "apricot-tish" drives me up the wall. I love apricots, but not their colour on my wall.

My son said (out of the blue) that his favourite colour was lavender. Where did it come from? Maybe from wanting to be so different from others. Maybe I am not super original, but I like bordeaux (to wear). I had boots, shoes, raincoat (if I ever lose enough weight, I'll be delighted to wear it again).

But to round it up - maybe my true colour is not Blue, but more of a grey-ish variety. What colours are donkeys? The smart ones?
